Models and effort

The model menu sits under the message field, next to the permission mode. It lists the models that your Claude Code offers, and new ones appear on their own when Claude Code adds them.

• Default (recommended) uses the model that Claude Code picks for you.
• Type in the search field to filter the list, use the arrow keys to move and press Enter to choose.
• Effort, under the models, sets how much the model thinks before it answers: from Low to Max, depending on the model. More effort gives better answers to hard problems and takes longer.

The model and effort you choose apply to the current conversation, and new conversations start with the same choice.
